Bathroom, restroom, lavatory, washroom, it has many names and many uses. We use it to get clean, to get ready for our day and to do our…business. It’s one of the most used rooms in a house and because of this it’s pretty much impossible to keep clean for more than a few days at a time. If this causes you some bathroom maintenance anxiety, don’t fret! Here’s a few bathroom hacks to help make your bathroom cleaning and maintenance a little easier so you can focus less on those water stains on
If you have chrome fixtures you know how annoying water spots can be. They’re stubborn and take a lot of elbow grease to remove. Instead of breaking into a sweat just cut a lemon in half and rub it over your chrome fixtures. Those water spots will disappear. After you’ve removed all of those water spots you can polish your chrome fixtures using baby oil.To prevent toilet bowl stains use car wax. I know this sounds crazy but just keep an open mind on this one. If you apply car wax (preferably synthetic) to the walls of your toilet bowl it will make it hard for stains to stick. You may need to re-coat twice a year but it sure beats having your hands toilet deep every time you need to clean it.
So you’ve just finished scrubbing the inside of your shower and it’s gorgeous. That white subway tile shines like a thousand smiling teeth and the grout is perfectly mold and grime free. You’re totally satisfied with the job you’ve done until you go to put the shower curtain back where it belongs and you notice that your liner looks like it’s been dipped in mud in contrast to the cleanliness of your bathroom tub. Instead of trying to awkwardly scrub two sides of a sheet of plastic just toss the entire thing into your washing machine! Most people don’t know that that’s even an option, but it is. You can even add a tiny it of bleach to help the process. Just make sure you don’t put it in the dryer unless you want an entirely different problem on your hands.
Scrubbing grout can be super tedious. Try using bleach pens meant for laundry stain removal to make kitchen and bathroom grout cleaning a breeze. You’ll be killing mold and bacteria but you’ll just feel like you’re drawing!
If you ever forget to turn on your bathroom fan while taking a shower you’ve had to deal with fogged up mirrors afterward. This is all fine and dandy if you have the time to let it clear up on its own or if you’re able to open up the bathroom door to let the steam out, but if you don’t have the luxury of time or the privacy to open doors there’s another way to deal with after shower fog. The next time you clean your bathroom mirror try using shaving cream. After thoroughly cleaning it put a layer of shaving cream on it and wipe it off with a clean cloth or paper towels.
If you need to unclog a drain but don’t have anything underneath your sink to use, try looking in your medicine cabinet instead. Alka Seltzer’s bubbly goodness can effectively dislodge a blockage in your sink or shower drain. If you’ve noticed that your shower head isn’t working as well as it used to, it may be due to residue build up blocking it’s holes. This can be easily dealt with using vinegar and a plastic bag. Simply fill up a ziplock bag with either white or apple cider vinegar, submerge your shower head into the bag and secure it with rubber bands, string or a twist tie from a bread bag. Let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes to remove grime and mineral build up.
