Windows, Walls and Washing

You could be wasting a lot of money in utilities and setting yourself up for some costly maintenance and repair bills if you neglect your windows and walls. There are things you can do to help keep your windows and walls in their best condition and listed below are a few of these maintenance tips.

If you need a quick chip fix to prevent the chip or crack from spreading or getting worse, you can take clear nail polish and paint it over the area until you can hire a handyman to repair or replace it. Just keep in mind, this is only a temporary fix and you will need to take care of the bigger problem.

Windows are often overlooked when homeowners are cleaning their houses, but it is important to take the time to clean them. When cleaning your windows, you will first want to dust any dirt off of them and you can do so using your vacuum’s attachment. Next, you will take the window cleaning product that you like best, and make sure you spray plenty of cleaner onto the window. If you do not use enough of the product, your windows can look very streaky. After you have sprayed, you can use a microfiber cloth to dry them, in order to have your windows look crystal clear.

Another window maintenance tip is to routinely check your windows to see if they need to be re-sealed. Over time, windows will start to get cracks or gaps around the seal. In order to prevent moisture or insects from getting inside of your home, you will want to seal your windows with caulk, from the outside of your home. This will help to keep your windows in better condition, so you will not have to replace them sooner than you would like to.

It is very easy to neglect your baseboards when you are cleaning, but they do accumulate quite a bit of dust and grime over time. Cleaning baseboards is actually very easy, but you may have to move some furniture to get full access to them. You can first dry off your baseboards with a microfiber cloth, or you can also use your vacuum attachment. Then, you can fill a bucket with warm water and add a few drops of dishwashing soap. You can use the same microfiber cloth and put it into the bucket and wring it out. You do not want it to be too wet.

Then you simply wash the baseboards, making sure to take extra care on the corners and edges. By taking care of your baseboards, you will also be able to notice if any of the baseboards have suffered from any water damage or if they are pulling away from the wall. Both of these issues would signify that there is a bigger problem going on and you will want to call a handyman to come and take a look and figure out what the problem is. When washing your baseboards, it also gives you time to take a look at your walls. Then you can look to see if there are any cracks and if there are, you can make sure to get them fixed.
